My wife, my 14 years old son, and I came from Birmingham, Alabama, on July 25, 2021, to stay for 5 days at Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge.
First of all, in Entebbe Airport, if you got the vaccination AND the PCR test resulted within 3 days of your arrival to Uganda, you do NOT need to be tested on arrival in Uganda again (contrary to what some web pages say).
To our surprise, “all trains run on time” in Uganda, including hotels, transportation, flights, trips, payments, and most importantly, Covid PCR testing on departing Uganda.
Our stay was glorious! It was not only the gorilla experience but other trips and activities that made it worthwhile. Meeting Batwa people, trekking in the jungle, canoe trip on the lake, and learning how to roast coffee were all world-class. I suggest staying longer here than 3 days!
Surely, spending time with mountain gorillas is out of this world, and most would place it high on the bucket list, but I feel too young to call it that way. We were able to include our 14-year-old son in it, and it is for sure safer than summer Lake Michigan swimming. The stories we listened to from the guides, park rangers, and hotel staff will stay with us forever.
The quality of the hotel is excellent despite challenges faced by the citizens of Uganda. The team members are professional, knowledgeable, and they go out of their way to assist guests at every step.
The caliber of people you meet at the lodge was unexpected but added benefit. Without naming them, you can find many of them in the global news and on from pages. Naturally, they had great stories to share in an intimate setting of Bwindi sunsets. Random people don’t make it here, but those who do, they do belong.
