Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge is located on the southern edge of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwestern Uganda (East Africa). Nestled quiently on a ridge overlooking the Bwindi forest swatch, a walking distance from the gorilla trekking visitor center at Nkuringo Sector briefing point, the lodge gives trekkers excellent access to trekking gorillas in Bwindi's southern region. The breathtaking forest views, picturesque Virunga volcano range, and great access to gorillas make the location of Nkuringo Bwindi Lodge such glorious.

Perched at an altitude of 2,161 meters (7,090 ft) above sea level, this area is totally mosquito free and enjoys superb views of the forested hill locally known as “Nkuringo,” the Kashasha River Valley, the magnificent Virunga Volcanoes, world-renowned Bwindi forest and beyond the Great Albertine Rift Valley to the Rwenzori mountains on a clear-sky day.

Scheduled local flights

There are scheduled and chartered flights at the nearest Kisoro Airport (ICAO: HUKI), a 1.5-hour drive from the Lodge. Domestic flights between Kisoro Airport and Entebbe International Airport also connect to Kihihi Airport (Buhoma, North of Bwindi), Kasese Airport (Queen Elizabeth National Park), Semuliki Airport, Mbarara (Lake Mburo National Park), and Entebbe International Airport.

There are two flights from Kisoro Airport to Entebbe at 8:30 am, leaving Entebbe International Airport between 6:00 - 8:00 am. We can book your local flight and organize your airport transfer through our sister company Nkuringo Walking Safaris. The Lodge has a 4x4 safari vehicle that transfers visitors between the Lodge and Kisoro Airport at a cost.

By Road From Entebbe

If you frequently take road trips, this journey is truly one that you'll enjoy. The distance is about 477 km (296 mi) from Entebbe International Airport and will take nearly 9+ hours of driving. The highway is newly tarmac paved all the way to Kisoro (90% of the journey); the rest of the journey into Bwindi (45 km) is dirt paved.

Off the highway

From Kabale Town to Nkuringo, 98 km (60 mi), takes about 3 hours drive. Half of the route is tarmac paved and the other half (45 km, 1.5 hours) is dirt paved up-to Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge.

Follow the tarmac road southwest out of Kabale in the direction of Kisoro. At 45 km (28 mi), a sign post of Uganda Wildlife Authority and one of Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge directs you right to Nkuringo. 26 km (16 mi) before our signpost, you will observe one directing you to the north side of Bwindi Forest via Ruhija to Buhoma, a distance of 90 km. Keep left to continue on the Kisoro road at 26 km and do not proceed right towards Ruhija or Buhoma.

AT the 45 km signpost, follow the right and leave the tarmac road to follow a windy dirt road that will eventually expose wonderful views of the Bwindi Forest. You will observe a sign post for Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge at the junction to the Rushaga 19km from Nkuringo. Continue on this unnamed ‘main road’ to the trading center of Rubuguri for 7kms. You must pass through Rubuguri town where 1km the other side of town at the junction to Kisoro and Nkuringo you will find another signpost for the Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge in conjunction to one for Uganda Wildlife Authority. Nkuringo is a right turn some 10 km distance.

By road from Kisoro

On arrival in Kisoro from Kabale or the Cyanika border post with Rwanda at the Mutanda Road junction, where Kindly Service operates a fuelling station, a right turn will take you toward the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. After 10 km crossing the Mucha River, a signpost for Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge can be observed approximately 29km distance. The distance from Kisoro is 39 km, and it takes 90 minutes to Nkuringo.
