Responsible Travel
Travelling responsibly is at the heart of everything we do and every decision we make. We believe that travel should be a force for good and by uniting with our employees, partners and guests, we can make a positive impact in the local communities where we operate.
Nkuringo Lodges and our Safari Operations are involved in various social and environmental protection programs that affect our businesses and are especially engaged in raising ecological awareness as part of the holiday safari experience by passing on this information to their guests who stay or travel with us in Africa.
While the need to go the proverbial extra mile is central to Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge's philosophy—‘In Harmony With Nature’—our responsible travel wish is that our guests depart emotionally rich, more informed and ecologically aware than when they arrived and more appreciative of the world on their return home, is of paramount importance.
Our community responsibility policy aims at promoting community-based projects and sustainable travel by empowering the lives of the people in places where our properties are built and where we travel. We foresee some of responsible travel initiatives contributing to the broader economy through reduction in the rural-urban migration, community empowerment, healthy and an educated population that we would like to see others in the industry also emulate.
Take a look at some of our projects below:

The Bwindi Drop Project
We are on a mission to provide safe clean water to our Nkuringo village community through the newly established Bwindi Drop Project.
The lodge iron roofs harvest thousands of litters of rainwater almost every day. We're constructing a water purification system to purify the harvested water and supply it to the community to help them avoid traveling down harsh slopes to collect clean water.
You can be part of this generous project; contact our reservations desk at bwindi@nkuringolodges.com or chat with us at thet imposing green button on the bottom of your screen.

Plant A Tree Project
Reforestation is a cornerstone for Nkuringo Safaris sustainability efforts. We operate a Carbon Neutral lodge in Bwindi NP and work through the Uganda Carbon Bureau to offset our carbon footprint. We are conscious of the environment and action towards litter collection, waste management, water conservation, recycling and re-use of resources. The indigenous tree planting initiative is an opportunity for all our guests to leave a lasting memory and take part in regreening our planet for future generations.

Pack For a Purpose
Travellers coming to see mountain gorillas have gained a hunger to contribute and interact with the community more positively. The tourist’s script has flipped from, ‘What can I get out of this travel experience?’ to ‘How can I give back through this experience?’
With Pack For a Purpose, our guests have an extraordinary, meaningful experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, and the community directly benefits from their visit. Some guests offer to fund scholarships, clean water supply and medical supplies; others pack something extra in their luggage that they can give away, like clothing and books.
If you save just a few kilos of space in your suitcase and take supplies for the projects we support in need, you’ll make a priceless impact in the lives of our local children and families.
We are proud members of Pack for a Purpose, an initiative that allows travelers like you to make a lasting impact in the community at your travel destination. If you save just a few kilos of space in your suitcase and take supplies for the projects we support in need, you’ll make a priceless impact in the lives of our local children and families. Fair Trade Policy
Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge is heavily supported by Nkuringo Walking Safari activities. The activities are primarily centred around sustainable walking adventures around Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, employing several local guides and in the process positively impacting the communities around the lodge.
Through our fair-trade policy, we help sponsor our walking safari guides with guiding skills training courses and extend our support to thir children in our Nkuringo Junior Stars Program with a primary focus on the girl-child staying in school while their parent earns a sustainable, comfortable living.

Skilling Local Women
Empowering the women of Nkuringo with neating, sewing skills and knowledge to uplift their self-confidence and family wealth. Nkuringo promotes their products through our gifts shop at the lodge and encourages travellers to donate and volunteer with the group through Our Gorilla Junction Foundation.
