Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge is strategically located with stunning views over the Virunga Volcanoes, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, the Albertine Rift valley and the fabric of local community.
Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge’s 16 rooms are split into 2 categories, the Garden Cottages and the 2 Bedroom Villas.
Consisting of 8 Garden Chalets ‘Cottages and 3 2 in 1 Bedroom Villa & family villa. From the veranda of each cottage there are stunning views out to either the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or the Virunga Volcanoes. The huge interiors feature a sitting area with a fireplace and either twin or double bed – all beds measure 7 feet, giving a lot of leg room. At the rear of each cottage is a large bathroom decorated in stone tile, a shower and double basins.
Built out of local material, using locally sourced papyrus mat for ceiling and wooden floors with touch of volcanic rock, the corrugated iron sheet to support rain water catchment which is our main source of water.
We operate ‘In Harmony with Nature’ and on ‘Carbon Neutral footprint ‘, working with clients to preserve the environment through our go –green endeavours. All clients are encouraged to come with their own-water bottles where drinking water can be re-filled from our main dining area.
We would strongly encourage you to please pack your own water bottle which can be refilled as often as you like
– we have filtered water dispensers in the main dining area which is perfectly safe to drink.
This would help us immensely by reducing the amount of plastic waste in these precious wildlife environments.
The lodge has a restaurant for visitors to enjoy freshly prepared, wholesome meals. Food stuffs are purchased locally, where possible, to benefit the community. Enjoy our much-loved bread and fresh soups that most of our clients rave about. In the Dining room and the upstairs lounge, you can curl up in one of the sofas with a book and drink by the fireplace.
Our rooms are self -contained with hot water but please be aware water is a scarce commodity in Nkuringo by Virtue of the lodge sitting on a ridge some 700m above the Kashasha River at 2160m ASL.
A 25km round trip by vehicle to the village of Rubuguri is required to collect water in order to service the lodge during the dry season months. Rain water harvesting is conducted across the lodge from all metallic roofs but we are unable to harvest sufficient to meet the demands of our water needs throughout the year.
